ASSAY OFFICE
CARPHONE WAREHOUSE
This project involved the conversion of a former BBC costume warehouse to form the operational headquarters for a leading telecommunications company.
The internal organisation centres around a main entrance and shared meeting space with an adjoining restaurant, forming the social and organisational heart of the building. A cascade of staircases and ramps links the floors, creating strong vertical connectivity and encouraging movement and interaction between departments.
Corporate branding was integrated throughout the external façade and internal environment, reinforcing the company’s identity and establishing a strong presence on this prominent gateway site.
As part of the wider development, a neighbouring former car showroom was also acquired and converted into additional office accommodation arranged over three floors. The building was adapted to include a new mezzanine level, together with staff facilities including a kitchen, canteen and additional welfare spaces.
The design process was strongly influenced by the integration of new mechanical and electrical services within the existing structures, alongside the demands of a fast-track construction programme. A simple and robust palette of materials was adopted to deliver a practical and efficient workplace environment.
