CHESTNUT WALK

This project involved the design of a contemporary extension to a Grade II listed Georgian villa.

The client sought a solution that would complement the character of the historic building without resorting to imitation of traditional architectural details.

The extension is conceived as a light-touch intervention, carefully positioned to connect with the existing house while maintaining a clear distinction between old and new. It provides an enlarged kitchen space together with a new shower room, improving the functionality of the ground floor accommodation.

The perimeter of the extension is defined by brickwork sympathetic to the host building, forming a garden wall that anchors the new structure within its setting. Within this enclosure, a more contemporary architectural language is introduced.

A large opening façade connects the kitchen directly with the garden, strengthening the relationship between interior and exterior spaces while providing improved access to a previously concealed area of amenity garden.
