H.O.P.E CENTRE
RGS THE GRANGE
RGS The Grange is an independent preparatory school set within extensive landscaped grounds to the north of Worcester city centre.
This project sensitively reimagines and extends the existing campus, delivering four new classrooms with supporting accommodation positioned to the south of the main building. Arranged entirely at ground level, the new teaching spaces provide seamless access to the surrounding landscape, reinforcing the school’s strong connection with the outdoors. New canopies extending from the three principal elevations create sheltered external learning and play areas, encouraging year-round use while providing safe and convenient circulation throughout the site.
The design has been carefully informed by the site’s unique constraints and opportunities, resulting in a proposal that responds naturally to its setting. The low-profile, single-storey extension sits comfortably within the generous landscape, minimising its visual impact while enhancing the existing campus. A colonnade of timber columns wraps the building, supporting an elegant canopy that blurs the boundary between inside and outside. This architectural gesture not only provides shelter from sun and rain but also enriches the daily experience of pupils by extending learning beyond the classroom.
Architecturally, the design is defined by its clarity, restraint and simplicity. The composition is both elegant and purposeful, with each space clearly expressed and carefully integrated with the character of the historic manor house. The result is a contemporary educational environment that respects its heritage while providing flexible, inspiring spaces designed to support the next generation of learners.
