THE ELIZABETH BRADFORD BUSINESS CENTRE

The project reimagined the former Co-operative Department Store, originally constructed in 1897, transforming it into a serviced office building housing 14 bespoke workspaces for growing businesses.

The design aimed to open up the building wherever possible, creating a seamless connection between its original cellular layout while integrating modern IT infrastructure and contemporary office services.

Characterful historic features — including stained glass windows, decorative staircases, and parquet flooring — have been carefully restored, breathing new life into the building and preserving its architectural heritage. The sensitive intervention celebrates the original craftsmanship while delivering a functional, modern workspace that meets the needs of today’s entrepreneurs.

The Elizabeth Bradford Business Centre plays a pivotal role in Tamworth’s town centre regeneration, delivered through the Future High Street Fund programme launched in 2020. The initiative seeks to transform the high street experience, turning the town centre from a place people merely passed through into a vibrant destination where people want to spend time. By addressing challenges such as declining footfall and an ageing urban fabric, the project repositions the historic building as a contemporary hub, reinvigorating the heart of the town and strengthening its civic identity.
