THE RIDGE

The proposal involves the demolition of the existing house at Windyridge and the creation of a contemporary three-storey replacement dwelling that responds to the topography and character of the site.

Located within a mature residential setting, the design maintains a respectful street presence while taking full advantage of the sloping terrain.

From the road, the new building appears modest in scale. A flat roof form ensures the overall height remains discreet, and the roofline is visually screened by existing boundary trees, preserving the green character of Daisy Bank Road. As the site falls away to the rear, the full three-storey volume is revealed, allowing the home to open dramatically towards the landscape and capture elevated views.

The architectural language is defined by a strong horizontal emphasis, using Cotswold stone at the lower levels where the building appears to emerge from the ground, and crisp black zinc cladding above to create a contemporary yet contextually rooted form. Carefully articulated openings frame views and maximise light, while enhancing privacy to neighbouring plots.

Internally, the dwelling offers a generous five-bedroom layout with flexible living areas arranged to connect with the changing levels of the site. A key feature of the design is the integration of substantial external terraces at multiple levels, creating seamless indoor/outdoor living and reinforcing the relationship between the house and its landscape
