WHITBORN CLOSE

Whitborn Close is the transformation of a large dormer bungalow originally constructed in the late 1990s.

The property was inherited by two brothers, both living overseas, who sought to reconfigure the house to accommodate their growing families during visits to the UK, while also allowing the property to function as a flexible short- or long-term rental.

The design strategy focused on reorganising the internal layout to create a generous shared living environment while maximising the number of bedrooms within the existing footprint. A new open-plan living space forms the heart of the house, combining kitchen, dining and informal entertaining areas within a single continuous volume.

A 12-metre-long run of sliding glazing opens the space directly onto the private rear garden, extending the living areas outward and bringing natural light deep into the plan. This reconfiguration allowed previously underutilised rooms within the house to be repurposed as additional bedrooms, enabling the property to comfortably accommodate two families simultaneously.

The project was delivered as a full architectural commission, encompassing architecture, interior design and landscape proposals to create a cohesive and contemporary domestic environment.
