MOATHOUSE LANE
WORDLEY FARM
Wordley Farm is located in a remote rural setting just outside Abberley in Worcestershire, accessed via a single farm track and surrounded by open countryside.
The project developed as a wider masterplanning exercise to rationalise and optimise the buildings across the farmstead, which is occupied by three generations of the same family. The strategy considered the long-term use and arrangement of the site while improving the quality and performance of the existing accommodation.
The work included the refurbishment and reconfiguration of the original 19th-century farmhouse, the design of a new replacement dwelling, and securing a Class Q planning permission for the conversion of an adjacent redundant agricultural storage building.
The new house replaces a 1970s cabin that had reached the end of its usable life. It has been designed as an off-grid dwelling, incorporating solar photovoltaic panels with battery storage, alongside rainwater harvesting systems.
High levels of insulation, strong thermal performance, triple-glazed windows and deep roof overhangs contribute to a highly efficient and comfortable home, designed to allow the ageing occupants to continue enjoying the remote rural setting.
